Special little touches: Marmalade on Toast!

We welcomed a very special couple to the hotel recently who were celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary. It was a pleasure to get to know them and hear how they met 40 years ago. Listening to their story, gave us an idea to help make their celebrations truly special and memorable.
The couple met through their young children who used to play together. They went on a date, and six weeks later were married. Forty years ago budget was tight and they only had a very small wedding. The couple didn’t have a landline, and this was before mobile phones, so unfortunately they weren’t aware that the groom’s mum was in hospital unable to attend; and that the groom’s brother was also unable to join the celebrations.
They said their wedding vows with only a few people present; there wasn’t a lavish reception. This newly married couple ended up back at their house with a glass of bubbly and marmalade on toast as their wedding meal.
Having heard their wonderful story, the staff at the hotel thought it would be a nice gesture to nod back to their wedding day 40 years ago. As a surprise, the hotel arranged a glass of Prosecco and marmalade on toast canapes on arrival for all their guests. The couple loved this special touch as they celebrated their ruby wedding anniversary with friends and family.
Jenny and Frank said: “Thank you so much, Claire and the team, for a fabulous day! Everything was great: the venue, what a lovely room overlooking the garden; the food; and, of course, the staff who just couldn’t do enough for us. We were so touched by your generous provision of prosecco for all our guests and the toast and marmalade canapes were a masterstroke, we couldn’t believe it! You must have listened so intently to our story when we initially met. Thank you for giving us the ‘wedding reception’ we didn’t have 40 years ago.”
